Job Overview
The Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) serves as the autonomous overseer of social care and childcare services. CIW is tasked with the registration, evaluation, and enhancement of service quality and safety, ensuring the welfare of individuals across Wales. The roles of inspection and enforcement are vital in delivering secure, high-quality regulated services to the populace.
The primary responsibility of an Inspector is to verify that regulated care services deliver safe and quality care while promoting continuous improvement. Inspectors leverage their expertise to protect the welfare of service users and gather data on outcomes, which CIW utilizes for evaluating local authorities and shaping policy.
Inspectors report to a Team Manager and play a crucial role in the timely and effective execution of CIW's essential duties across all categories of Regulated Care Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing and managing a portfolio of regulated services, ensuring timely inspections, monitoring risk levels, addressing incoming concerns, and maintaining accurate records.
- Conducting inspections as per an established schedule, including collaborative inspections with Estyn in childcare and play, observing service user well-being, identifying non-compliance issues, and addressing safeguarding matters.
- Taking charge of actions related to services of concern and coordinating with key stakeholders, including commissioners and other regulatory entities.
- Preparing and executing enforcement actions, including drafting legal notices.
- Gathering evidence and participating in Care Standard Tribunal hearings.
- Collaborating with management to set and achieve organizational performance goals, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative metrics.
- Facilitating effective communication within the team to share best practices and report concerns.
- Contributing to the enhancement of practices to ensure consistent regulatory standards, with a focus on diversity and equality.
- Staying informed about legislative changes, guidance, policies, and best practices.
- Fostering ongoing engagement with stakeholders, including service users and caregivers.
- Drafting correspondence related to specific service issues.
- Maintaining precise records, including the use of the CRM database (CaSSI).
- Taking ownership of personal performance management and professional development, seeking relevant growth opportunities in line with the Welsh Government/CIW performance framework.
