Job Summary

The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Operations Manager and be responsible for providing supervision for personnel and quayside activities, ensuring safe systems of work are in place and effective in accordance with legislation and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Supervision: Direct supervision and control of all operational activity, third parties, contractors, and visitors on the allocated quayside(s).
  • Permit Management: Issue, control, and monitor Permits to Work in accordance with our Client's procedure.
  • LOLER Operations: Control LOLER Operations, producing lift plans and method statements in accordance with our Client's Global Lifting Plan, Parts 1, 2, & 3.
  • Quayside Management: Actively manage traffic on the quayside to preserve a controlled work zone and ensure a safe supply of transport where necessary.
  • System Navigation: Demonstrate proficiency in the navigation of the relevant sections of our Client's Integrated Logistics Management System (iLMS), ensuring you are up to date with publications and associated revisions, and that these are communicated and understood by staff as appropriate.
  • Lifting Equipment Management: Control our Client's owned lifting equipment, including managing the maintenance and inspection of same, including the application of our Client's colour codes.
  • Crane Management: Control hired mobile cranes and operators on site, verifying operator, crane, and lifting equipment certification are valid.
  • Lift Data Management: Ensure accurate and timely lift data (number of lifts, weights) are being accurately captured for billing purposes.
  • Discrepancy Management: Ensure Remain-On-Boards (ROB), round-trip cargo, and other discrepancies are accurately recorded and transmitted.
  • Collaboration: Provide assistance and collaboration with the Operations Manager/Assistant Operations Manager as/when required.
  • Compliance: Undertake verifications of operational activities ensuring compliance with legislation and company procedures. Where non-compliance is identified, participate in the SID process and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Competency Assessments: Undertake competency assessments of operational personnel to ensure that our people are always operating to the highest standards and progressing under continuous improvement methodology.
  • Base Information Management: Ensure base information, i.e., fuel usage, etc., is recorded accurately and passed to base administration.
  • Communication: Actively engage and communicate clearly and effectively with Management, Peers, Clients, Contractors, and Visitors, which demonstrates a collaborative and supportive approach.
  • Training and Development: Ensure personnel have the required information, instruction, and training in the effective application of Procedures, Risk Assessments, Permits to Work, and Lift Plans or any other documentation utilised as part of their tasks.
  • Incident Response: Lead the initial on-scene response activities for all incidents. Investigate and track actions for all incidents. Raise our Client's AIR, LSI, and SID documentation, and advise our Client's Management where necessary.
  • Equipment Use: Ensure the correct use of Cranes, Forklifts, and Lifting equipment as set out in legislative and procedural policy. If authorised to carry out lifting activities (Forklift Operations / Banksman and Slinger duties), ensure that they are carried out in accordance with the Company's Group Operating Procedures and Global Lifting Procedures.
  • Staff Management: Manage quayside staff, undertaking return to work meetings, promoting staff welfare, conducting staff performance development meetings, and participating in the company.
