Personal Assistant for Gentleman with Parkinson's

To provide support to a gentleman in the home with daily tasks and enabling, ensuring he remains as independent as possible.
We are currently looking to recruit a small team of personal assistants/enablers to provide support for a gentleman in his home. The role will be to assist with personal care, meals, and the ordering of shopping and medication.
The gentleman has a diagnosis of Parkinson's and his home is partially adapted for this. He has all the equipment in place to enable him to move around his home safely and with support.
He is awaiting allocation of a wheelchair, which, once he is confident with his mobility, he hopes to use to get out and about in the local community.
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to spend enabling time to access some of the gentleman's hobbies and interests. Once the team has become established and familiar with routines, he aims to enjoy being out of his home.
He enjoys music and arts and used to cycle a lot. He also enjoys watching TV, especially programs about the great outdoors, and has a passion for dogs.
The role will involve supporting the gentleman with his daily care, including personal care, meals, and medication. The successful candidates will also have the opportunity to support him to get out and about in the community.
Support Hours: 37.5 hours per week to be divided amongst the team, with flexibility to discuss with the employer. These hours will increase to accommodate enabling time in the coming months.
The hours will be broken down as follows:
- Monday to Sunday: 7 x 90 minutes @ 09:30hrs support with personal care and provide breakfast and a drink.
- Monday to Sunday: 7 x 45 minutes @ 13:00hrs provide a light lunch and a drink, personal care at bedside, change bedding, support with medication, housework, laundry, and rubbish removal.
- Monday to Sunday: 7 x 45 minutes @ 16:30hrs provide a hot meal and a drink, personal care at bedside, change bedding, support with medication, housework, laundry, and rubbish removal.
- Monday to Sunday: 7 x 60 minutes @ 21:00hrs support to provide personal care and leave a drink at bedside.
Main Duties:
- Support at home with personal care, including shower/bathing and all meals.
- Assist with getting up in the morning and getting into bed on an evening.
- Support with all moving and handling aspects, transferring to wheeled commode, using stair lift, and transferring to powered wheelchair once allocated.
- Support with the administration of medication and the recording of this.
- Support to get out and about in the great outdoors.
Rate of Pay: £13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.
Person Specification:
- Have some understanding of moving and handling, however full training will be provided.
- Be patient and tolerant, observing signs of tiredness as this can happen quickly.
- Have some understanding of how health can impact on mental health and well-being.
- Must hold a full UK driving license.
An Enhanced DBS Check is required for this post, cost will be met by Services.
