About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CAMHS Specialist Psychologist to join our team at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. As a key member of our Forensic Adolescent Consultation and Treatment Service (FACTS), you will play a vital role in providing specialist assessment and consultation for children deemed high risk to others, presenting with significant complexity.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will offer psychological input to FACTS for CAMHS in the following ways:

Direct Clinical Work

  • Providing psychological opinion and direct assessment to aid the multi-agency system's understanding of risk, risk management, and associated needs of the child.
  • Collaborating with Nursing, Psychiatry, Family Therapy, and Social Workers, all of whom work within FACTS for CAMHS.

Indirect Clinical Work

  • Working collaboratively with services within the child's system and developing consultancy skills with support from a multidisciplinary team.
  • Providing teaching and training to CAMHS services.
  • Engaging in audit and research and other continuing professional development activities.
  • Supporting service development and improvement projects.
  • Developing skills and gaining experience in structured risk assessment.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Honours Degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or its equivalent.
  • Relevant additional specialist training or supervised practice in a therapeutic approach.
  • Relevant additional specialist training or knowledge and experience in a child setting.
  • Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration as a practitioner psychologist.
  • Clinical supervisor training for doctoral clinical psychology trainees.
  • Additional training in attachment-related interventions with children and/or young people.
  • Evidence of competent and autonomous clinical practice, effective multi-disciplinary working, and involvement in safeguarding and multi-agency risk management approaches.
  • Experience of offering a specialist CAMHS consultation service.
  • Experience of forensic risk assessment and use of structured professional judgement tools.
