About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Premises Officer to join our team at Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our academy's grounds and buildings.

Main Responsibilities
  • Grounds Maintenance: Ensure that all hard surface areas and paths are kept free of litter, leaves, weeds, and other debris at all times. Empty litter bins daily and perform daily ground maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, pruning, weeding, and planting.
  • Sports Facility Maintenance: Mark and maintain sports facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
  • Security and Access Control: Carry out security procedures for the buildings and grounds, including operating the alarm system. Perform routine and non-routine opening and closing of the buildings and grounds.
  • Keyholder Services: Be available for telephone call-out at evenings and weekends as a keyholder.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Undertake cleaning duties as required and ensure the maintenance and operation of heating, lighting, ventilation, water supplies, drainage, and sanitation on site.
  • Building Fabric Maintenance: Carry out improvements and maintenance to the building fabric as required.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping: Report any defects found to the premises or equipment to the Estates Manager and maintain suitable records.
  • Lettings and Events: Be available to undertake lettings of the premises, ensuring they are clean and in a satisfactory condition before and after use.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that adequate health and safety measures are taken at all times and report any health and safety breaches or defects to relevant staff.
  • Equipment Maintenance: In conjunction with relevant staff, check call points, equipment, and fire alarms on a regular basis and maintain suitable records.
  • Fire Safety: Ensure that all fire exits and accessible escape routes are maintained free of obstruction at all times.
  • Logistics and Supplies: Take delivery of mail, stores materials, and other goods and transport them to the appropriate location.
  • Furniture and Equipment Movement: Carry out the moving and setting up of furniture within the academy as required.
  • Customer Service: Deal with appropriate enquiries from staff, students, parents, officers, and other employees of the academy, contractors, members of the public, and lettings clients.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualifications to A Level or equivalent.
  • Health and Safety Knowledge: Basic knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.
  • Maintenance Skills: Sound training in one or more of the following: plumbing, general and ground maintenance, electrical/building maintenance, heating systems.
  • System Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the operation of heating, ventilating systems, and common causes of malfunctions.
  • Security and Maintenance Systems: Knowledge of maintenance and security systems and procedures.
  • Supervisory Skills: Knowledge of supervisory skills.
  • Cleaning Standards: Understanding of appropriate cleaning methods and standards.
  • Experience: Experience of working in a school or educational establishment with children and young people.
  • D.I.Y. Experience: Considerable DIY experience.
