About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join our team at Rhodes Wood Hospital, a specialist Inpatient Eating Disorder service for children and young people aged 8-18 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring high-quality food preparation and presentation.
  • Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation, adhering to established protocols.
  • Prepare, plan, and cook meals to a consistently high standard, taking into account special requests and dietary requirements.
  • Serve food and beverages to service users, staff, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare and produce food for conferences and banquets, ensuring exceptional presentation and quality.
  • Participate in food costings through effective cost control procedures, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Adhere to 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and record-keeping, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation, ensuring seamless service delivery.
  • Assist the Head Chef in researching and creating new menus, ensuring meals meet high-quality and healthy eating guidelines.
  • Correctly file all paperwork related to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system (HACCP), including fridge temperatures, food temperature logs, and cleaning schedules.

Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Hold GCSE or equivalent English.
  • Hold City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
  • Hold Basic Food Hygiene (essential).
  • Hold Intermediate Food Hygiene (desirable).
  • Have previous experience in a similar environment.
  • Have previous experience in delivering a service on mass.
  • Have menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control, and budget experience.

About the Team

You will be working at Rhodes Wood Hospital, a specialist Inpatient Eating Disorder service for children and young people aged 8-18 years. Situated in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, the hospital emphasizes the mental wellbeing, educational, emotional, and physical needs of its young patients.
