About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled marine ecologist or marine habitat mapping/modelling scientist to join our dynamic Seafloor Ecosystems sub-group at the National Oceanography Centre.

As a key member of our team, you will contribute your expertise to national and international programmes that seek to map marine habitats or use marine spatial data in novel and informative ways.

Our team is involved in a broad portfolio of active projects, covering marine habitat mapping and modelling, marine spatial planning, blue carbon assessments, and understanding climate change.

We are looking for a candidate with a broad interest in marine science, flexibility, and the ability to contribute to multiple topics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data collection at sea, analysis, interpretation, publication writing, and communication of findings to scientific and stakeholder audiences.
  • Contribution to the development of new research funding proposals for a wide range of funding stakeholders.
  • Participation in various projects, creating a strong research profile and expanding international networks.
About You

You will have a PhD or equivalent experience in marine science, with a strong background in marine ecology, spatial analysis, and marine habitat mapping or spatial modelling.

You will be familiar with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistical analysis, with experience in geostatistical modelling and spatial analysis.

You will demonstrate a track record in scientific publication and potential for developing a coherent research portfolio that can attract funding.
