Quality Engineer Job Description

Location: Northampton
Pay Range: £40,000 - £45,000
Contract Type: Permanent

We are collaborating with a leading automotive engineering company that designs and manufactures high-performance engines and electronics. They work with car manufacturers, motorsports teams, and high-performance vehicle makers, providing advanced engine technology, powertrains, and data systems.

The company is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to provide Quality Engineering support to their Quality, Production, and Engineering functions, while also being part of the customer interface.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ownership of internal quality issues and resolution using established Quality tools in a timely manner.
  2. Data collection, collation, and development of improvement activities to enhance quality.
  3. Definition of inspection criteria to ensure quality standards are met.
  4. Lineside quality improvement activities, including defect disposition analysis, scrap and rework analysis, and general improvement projects.
  5. Data-driven improvement activities in response to internal quality gate findings, including root cause analysis, countermeasure implementation, and auditing.
  6. Management of internal quality KPIs and metrics, including development of improvement plans.
  7. Assistance in external Quality activities where needed, with a focus on customer impact issues.
  8. Planning and managing APQP and PPAP activities, including the PPAP tracker.
  9. Support for the company's compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
Qualifications & Requirements
  1. Experience in aluminium CNC machining.
  2. Basic knowledge of Aluminium casting processes.
  3. Demonstrated experience in automotive PPAPs / APQP.
  4. Experience of using Quality tools (8D, 5Why, Ishikawa, etc.).
  5. Working understanding of statistical analysis tools, such as Gauge R&Rs, Capability analyses, and comparison tests.
