Senior Policy Analyst, Europe Programme and Future of Development Agencies

The Center for Global Development (CGD) is a leading international development organization that focuses on the policy intersections of low- and middle-income countries and the governments, institutions, and corporations that can be partners in delivering greater progress.

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to undertake a broad range of high-quality, policy-relevant research on European development cooperation and finance and development cooperation agency effectiveness with the aim of improving policy and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct desk-based primary research and interviews in the field or among experts under the direction of the CGD Europe Managing Director and Senior Policy Fellow, and the Research Fellow.
  2. Identify areas for potential research and analysis with the aim of improving international development policy.
  3. Write policy briefs, research papers, and articles for policymakers, alone or in collaboration with other senior colleagues.
  4. Manage research partners, reviewing and providing quality assurance of their work.
  5. Build and maintain relationships with key partners, including scholars, policymakers, and funders and develop relevant partnerships to amplify the work of the programme.
  6. Represent CGD through participation in conferences, private meetings, and other public events.
  7. Mentor and share responsibility for the professional development of junior research staff.

Requirements:

  1. A master's degree or PhD in economics, political science, or a related field.
  2. At least 6 years of experience of conducting quantitative and qualitative research/policy analysis in relevant areas.
  3. Experience of independently leading research projects through inception to publication and communication.
  4. Experience working for an official development agency or an international organization is desirable as is in-depth knowledge of European development policies and development finance.
  5. Outstanding writing, verbal communication, and data analytics skills.
  6. Proven ability to be a flexible team player and to manage successfully multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
