Teaching Opportunity in Design Technology and Engineering

We are seeking a part-time teacher of Design Technology and Engineering to join our team from January 2025. The role includes up to 12 hours of teaching per week.

Harrow School is a renowned institution with a rich history, dating back to 1572. Located on a 324-acre estate in north-west London, the school provides a unique learning environment for its students. With a strong focus on academic excellence, the school offers a broad-based curriculum that includes Design Technology and Engineering.

The Design Technology and Engineering department is particularly strong in engineering, electronics, product design, CAD/CAM, and materials processing. Students are encouraged to develop their own projects in a wide variety of contexts, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities, including a purpose-built, open-plan building with individual rooms for electronics and graphics, a specialist Sixth Form design room, and an exhibition area.

The department's extensive workshop is equipped with CNC routers, lasers, and milling machines, as well as a fully equipped foundry for MIG welding, plasma cutting, casting, welding, and forge work. The department also has a fully equipped IT room with CAD/CAM facilities, including Solidworks, Corel Draw, Sketch Up, and 2D design, as well as digital imaging, used throughout all coursework.

Examination results in Design Technology and Engineering are historically strong at IGCSE and A level, with several pupils going on to study Design or Engineering-related degree courses. The successful applicant will teach Design Technology and Engineering throughout the school, contribute to the Super-Curriculum, and participate in extra-curricular activities.
