ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the General Counsel will be instrumental in guiding Alter Domus through legal intricacies and facilitating informed legal choices to align with our ambitious growth strategies. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of legal domains, including corporate governance, intellectual property, employment law, and litigation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assume primary accountability for all legal operations within the Group, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the Supervisory Board and the Audit and Risk Committee regarding legal and risk considerations that support the firm's commercial objectives, including M&A, corporate events, and litigation.
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisors for business and commercial matters, excluding employment law but covering group litigation.
  • Mentor and develop senior in-house legal professionals on their journey to becoming General Counsel.
  • Collaborate with the Alter Domus Academy to design and implement compliance training, ensuring all employees understand their legal and compliance obligations.
  • As a senior leader, drive necessary changes, communicate effectively, and engage employees at all levels.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and risk management to mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Enhance and promote the Alter Domus brand and culture internally and externally, serving as an ambassador for our values and Employer Value Proposition.
  • Maintain a strong focus on cost management and budget discipline, instilling a culture of accountability.
  • Ensure adherence to the highest Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) standards.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will possess over 20 years of experience as a General Counsel or Senior Partner in a law firm, seeking a strategic role as part of a portfolio career. A fully qualified and licensed attorney, you should have:
  • A proven history as a General Counsel or Senior Partner, with extensive experience in providing legal guidance on commercial transactions, including M&A and IPO processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of listing regulations and governance requirements for publicly traded companies.
  • Experience with founder-led or private equity-backed firms experiencing rapid growth.
  • A global perspective and intellectual curiosity, enabling effective collaboration across regions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build trust, navigate complexity, and negotiate effectively.
  • Decisiveness and persuasiveness in achieving results, with experience engaging C-level executives and high-profile clients.
  • Comfort in operating at all organizational levels with political sensitivity.
  • A commitment to integrity and ethical standards.
