An exciting opportunity has emerged within our Legal Services and Claims Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This role involves managing and processing Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury claims, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently while also thriving in a team environment. You will be expected to perform under pressure while maintaining a high standard of work.
Your primary responsibility will be to deliver effective, confidential, and high-quality administrative support to the Legal Services Team in the handling of clinical negligence and personal injury cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate recording and management of data within the Claims Module of the Datix system.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on claims Datix records and make necessary updates.
- Assist the Legal Services Team in generating reports and fulfilling claim data requests.
- Oversee the destruction and retention of claims records, ensuring compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Safeguard the accuracy and confidentiality of personal information pertaining to Claimants and staff in accordance with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulations.

Detailed Responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize incoming correspondence via email and postal mail in collaboration with your Line Manager.
- Oversee the Legal Services email inbox, responding to inquiries or directing them to appropriate team members.
- Facilitate the disclosure of medical records and related materials for litigation to solicitors.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support for clinical negligence and personal injury claims.
- Collaborate with solicitors and keep the Head of Legal Services informed.
- Implement a robust tracking system to ensure timely responses.
- Identify and escalate issues to your Line Manager as necessary.
- Manage the electronic calendar for the Head of Legal Services, coordinating appointments effectively.
- Develop and maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems for secure access to information.
- Coordinate meetings with clinicians and external solicitors.
- Assist in preparing reports and training presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications and Education
Essential Criteria
- Strong educational background, including Math and English GCSE.
- Recognized administration qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable Criteria
- RSA Level 2 or ECDL Qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Experience in public-facing roles.
- Understanding of confidentiality protocols in the workplace, particularly in healthcare.
- Familiarity with the Equality Act (2010) and Freedom of Information Act (2000).
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulations.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience in healthcare or legal services settings.
- Operational knowledge of hospital systems and experience with Datix.
