Job Title: Revenue Services Legal Officer/Lawyer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Revenue Services Legal Officer/Lawyer to join our team at Cheshire West and Chester Council. As a key member of our Corporate Debt team, you will provide high-quality legal and procedural advice to support the recovery of debts and other financial matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and technical legal advice to officers on complex matters and legal aspects of situations.
  • Act as the lead legal adviser to the Corporate Debt Team, Client Finance Team, and Adult Social Care team on contentious and non-contentious matters.
  • Lead transformation activity and manage organisational change and development within a financial/performance/commercial environment.
  • Manage complex cases, including drafting proceedings and agreements, researching points of law, conducting advocacy, and negotiating settlements.
  • Conduct litigation and enforcement action, and maintain excellent record-keeping.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience of conducting litigation and enforcement action.
  • Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Good understanding of the work of the client teams.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on complex matters.
  • Experience leading legal surgeries between teams.
