Principal Ecologist

Our construction client is seeking a highly skilled Principal Ecologist to join their Environmental Services team based out of any of their UK offices in a hybrid working arrangement.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering a diverse range of exciting projects across multiple sectors, overseeing all ecological aspects of project planning, execution, and delivery. This includes working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project goals are achieved on time, within budget, and in compliance with ecological standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Take a multidisciplinary approach to project delivery, interfacing with related disciplines such as environmental management, flood risk, geo-environmental, and sustainability.
  2. Provide technical steer for producing ecological assessments from project inception through to project completion.
  3. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather input, ensure project accuracy, and allocate resources effectively.
  4. Ensure the project is resourced appropriately to deliver the programme.
  5. Identify potential risks and uncertainties and assist in developing mitigation strategies, schedules, and contingency plans.
  6. Play an influential role in establishing, expanding, and developing the broader Ecology team and its capabilities within the business.
Requirements
  1. A degree in ecology, along with a higher degree in a related field, is of interest.
  2. Willing and able to obtain security clearance due to the nature of the sectors we operate in, and our client requirements.
  3. Experience in Bio-Diversity net gain.
  4. Experience in managing complex projects, including commercial, resourcing & scheduling, and managing sub-contracts & sub-contractors.
  5. Significant experience in delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements.
  6. Proven experience in business development (work winning, bid writing) and client relationship management with the ability to generate ongoing workstreams with existing clients.
