About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Freelance News Reporter with expertise in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to join our team at Dmgmedia. As a Freelance News Reporter - SEO Specialist, you will be responsible for pitching engaging angles on trending and evergreen topics, performing reactive keyword research, optimizing site content, analyzing and predicting trends, and offering SEO guidance to editorial teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Develop and pitch compelling story ideas that drive SEO traffic, working closely with section editors to commission content.
  • SEO Optimization: Maximize reach across all search platforms by optimizing Metro's journalism, ensuring that our content is discoverable and engaging for our audience.
  • SEO Guidance: Provide ongoing feedback to reporters and editors on SEO best practices, nurturing existing site content and offering guidance on fresh pieces.
  • Staying Up-to-Date: Stay current with the news agenda and current events, reacting to breaking news by commissioning and optimizing content accordingly.
Requirements
  • Previous Experience: Essential to have previous experience working in a newsroom, applying existing SEO skills and knowledge to new tasks.
  • SEO Knowledge: Understanding of legal covenants such as the UK Editors' Code of Practice.
  • Dynamic Environment: Willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced 24/7 news environment, with regular booked shifts preferred across our 7 days/week rota.
