Position Summary:


As a vital member of a dedicated technical team, you will report to the Engineering Manager and assist the Fleet Operator in performing and overseeing mechanical and electrical maintenance, detailed fault diagnosis, and repairs on the Aventra Platform family of trains.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all maintenance activities conducted at the depot adhere to the company's established processes and safety regulations.

This role operates within a Safety Critical environment, where all tasks must contribute to achieving and maintaining the reliability and availability targets set for the trains.

You will also provide support to the Operator during service failures and troubleshoot any issues on the network.
Your role will involve delivering high-level technical support, which includes:
  • Offering engineering advice on train systems and key vehicle components (such as TCMS, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors, and on-train communications).
  • Optimizing maintenance schedules for trains.
  • Assisting customers with detailed fault diagnosis.
  • Developing solutions for immediate and long-term issues.
  • Monitoring warranty concerns and collaborating with supplier technical teams.
  • Responding to faulty trains in service, performing component replacements and modifications.
  • Conducting root cause analysis using established methodologies.
  • Ensuring correct sourcing of replacement parts.
  • Assisting in the update of maintenance instructions and processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Monitoring train reliability and availability, providing monthly performance reports.
  • Utilizing remote monitoring systems to oversee trains in service.
  • Downloading data from onboard train recorders.
  • Running diagnostic software to identify faults across various train systems.
  • Implementing system software updates as necessary.
  • Addressing obsolescence issues.
  • Providing engineering support for safety-related incidents.
  • Representing the service provider in internal safety forums.
  • Sharing insights from global fleet experiences to recommend design improvements.
  • Contributing to daily Health and Safety practices.
  • Demonstrating strong report writing capabilities.

Person Profile:
You will be a highly self-motivated individual, capable of working independently.

You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with extensive knowledge in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Experience Required:

  • Experience within the Rail sector is desirable.
  • Proficiency in using laptops and diagnostic tools for fault identification.
  • Ability to interpret maintenance manuals and schematics.
  • Experience in Mechanical or Electrical fault diagnosis and repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and evidence-gathering skills.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Minimum qualification required - NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline.
