Job Summary:

The Senior Social Work Manager will provide professional leadership and support to the Learning Disabilities and Autism Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality social work services to individuals with complex needs. This role will work closely with the Operational Manager to develop and implement strategies to improve service outcomes, manage caseloads, and provide guidance to team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Case Management: Carry a small caseload of complex cases, requiring a high level of professional skill, and provide support to the Operational Manager to monitor the duty and review systems for the team.
  2. Staff Supervision: Supervise, support, and mentor staff responsible for providing assessments and adult social care services, ensuring decisions meet legislative requirements and are strength-based and holistic.
  3. Practice Guidance: Provide practice guidance to team members, ensuring compliance with national and departmental policies, procedures, peer, and user feedback.
  4. Commissioning: Support the Operational Manager to commission services efficiently, effectively, and within budget, challenging and reviewing care packages, support plans, minor works, and equipment to ensure value for money.
  5. Safeguarding: Chair safeguarding strategy meetings and support staff involved in carrying out safeguarding enquiries, participating in MARAC, MAPPA, and VARAC.
  6. Service Development: Support the Operational Manager and liaise with the Principal Social Worker in matters relating to service development, participating in the development of strategic objectives and the production of departmental, service, and team plans, policies, and procedures.
  7. Interagency Working: Maintain effective links and working relationships within the Directorate, relevant statutory, local voluntary, and private agencies, primary care networks, Health, and other local professionals and partners to achieve effective integrated and joint working.
  8. Complaints and FOI: Respond to complaints and FOIs delegated by the manager, ensuring any learning is implemented and shared across the wider team.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of innovative service development or project management.
  • Experience of working with adults with dementia, sensory impairments, mental health, autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities.
  • Significant experience of supervising social care staff.
  • Rehabilitation knowledge for visually impaired and deaf/hard of hearing people.
  • Some knowledge of current policy developments and relevant research.
  • Knowledge of the needs and cultures of different communities in Luton.
