About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dietetic Support Worker to join our team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing essential support to patients with diverse dietary needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist registered dietitians in delivering nutritional care to patients.
- Provide administrative and clerical support, including typing and maintaining patient records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
Essential Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at grades A-C.
- ON/SVQ Level 3 Allied Health Profession award (Dietetic Support) or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Proven clerical skills, including typing proficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to complete tasks accurately and on time.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage workload under supervision.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Empathy and sensitivity towards patients experiencing distress.
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure and interruptions.
- Capacity to simplify technical information for improved patient understanding.
- Awareness of Equality & Diversity principles.
Desirable Requirements
- Computer competency qualification.
- Associate membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
- Previous experience as a Dietetic Support Worker/Assistant or in a similar role.
- Experience communicating with individuals facing serious illness.
- Experience working within an NHS or other healthcare setting.
Working Conditions
- May involve manual handling tasks.
- Flexibility with working hours is required.
- Access to a personal vehicle with a valid driver's license is essential for domiciliary community work (or suitable alternative transport arrangements).
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Proficiency in using IT software, including Microsoft Word.
- Competence in operating office equipment such as telephones, photocopiers, and filing systems.
Desirable Knowledge
- Knowledge of appropriate dietary choices for therapeutic menus.
- Familiarity with products and equipment used in tube feeding and therapeutic diets.
