Job Summary
The Scottish Borders Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Early Years Officer to lead the planning and delivery of Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) in the school Nursery settings. As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for mentoring and supporting staff, setting targets for children, and maintaining resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the nursery team, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality ELC services.
- Develop and implement daily plans, ensuring effective use of resources and staff roles.
- Communicate with staff, parents, and carers to ensure seamless continuity of the nursery class.
- Assume responsibility for the overview of the nursery class, including incident management and liaison with parents/carers.
- Stay up-to-date with early years developments and initiatives, participating in continuing professional development in line with Scottish Borders Council policy and procedures.
Requirements
- Hold a relevant qualification, such as HNC in Childhood Practice/Childcare and Education, SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF 7 / SVQ 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development, or SNNEB/NNEB.
- Have at least one of the following: BA Childhood Practice, PDA 8 or 9 in Childhood Practice/Early Education and Childcare, or SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF 9 / SVQ4 Children's Care, Learning and Development.
- Be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of appointment and maintain registration throughout the period of employment.
