Job Summary
The postholder will undertake BCG vaccinations in community clinic settings, providing essential immunization services to eligible babies across North West London.
Main Responsibilities
We require trained BCG Nurses to deliver the intradermal BCG vaccination to eligible babies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and organisational guidelines.
Key Duties
- Undertake clinical assessment of eligible babies and administer the intradermal BCG vaccination
- Advise parents and carers on the BCG vaccine, including aftercare of the site
- Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse, adhering to local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines
- Maintain statutory and mandatory training records (BLS, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation)
- Provide support, mentorship, guidance, and supervision to junior staff members
- Promote and facilitate collaborative working with parents, carers, and families of eligible children, as well as stakeholders, to provide a coordinated service for the community
- Maintain legible, contemporaneous records, safeguarding confidentiality
- Comply with relevant regulations and organisational and national guidance and policy documents relating to quality of immunisation services
- Participate in clinical governance activities in accordance with VUK policies and procedures for best practice
- Provide advice and support, including signposting where appropriate, on other missed or due childhood vaccinations for any eligible baby who attends the clinic
- Escalate issues, risks, and clinical incidents to management, which arise from contract compliance, service delivery, and client safety

Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of the management of vaccines and the Cold Chain
- Car driver with use of a car or the ability to travel between locations with small amounts of equipment
- Effective communication skills with children and adults
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse (adult or child branch) or Registered Midwife (NMC registered) live on NMC register
- MUST have experience in, and be proficient in intradermal vaccination technique. Please note, this is not a training post.
- Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
Desirable
- Knowledge of PGDs
- Undergone safeguarding Children training in the past 2 years to a minimum of level 2 with a willingness to be trained to Level 3
- Practical knowledge of National and Local policy relating to NHS routine immunisation schedule
