About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Support Assistant to join our team at Bradford Council's Children's Sensory and Physical Needs Service. As a Vision Impairment Specialist Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with vision impairment to access learning and develop the skills they need for adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with vision impairment in accessing learning across various subjects, including physical activities and creative technologies.
  • Administer medication independently, following training from health professionals, and support with personal hygiene needs.
  • Engage in Manual Handling training and respond to medical needs appropriately.
  • Support pupils in active lessons, such as dance, drama, and sport, and supervise their use of machinery and devices in lessons like resistant materials, textiles, and food technology.
  • Ensure the health and safety of pupils in various contexts, including physical activities and lessons.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of Braille is desirable, but training can be accessed as needed.
  • Confidence in using ICT, such as iPads and various apps, to facilitate learning and independence.

Working Arrangements

You will be employed by Bradford Council's Children's Sensory and Physical Needs Service and will be based at Hanson Academy. However, you may be required to work in alternative provisions if needed.
