As a Lead Cost Consultant, you will be an integral member of our Commercial, Estimating, and Procurement team, responsible for executing a variety of financial oversight and cost management tasks related to all construction projects undertaken by the organization.

  • Extensive experience in cost consultancy with a solid understanding of construction methodologies and mixed-tenure projects
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a systematic and logical approach to tasks; proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Capability to quickly adapt to new software systems, such as Xpedeon and Viewpoint/4Projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Proficiency in managing personal workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to influence and share best practices across the organization to support overall objectives
  • A comprehensive understanding of Surveying and Estimating, particularly in developing realistic construction budgets
  • Familiarity with strategic goals and financial performance metrics, with the ability to interpret complex financial models
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with procurement and cost reporting systems, ideally Xpedeon, COINS, or Agresso
Key Duties

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with various departments, including Land, Development, and Construction, to provide cost-related insights during design meetings
  • Participate in development meetings and contract reviews as necessary
  • Review contract documentation to identify discrepancies and potential cost-saving opportunities
  • Assist in the preparation of tender lists and procurement schedules
  • Distribute design packages and prepare all necessary tender documentation
  • Conduct cost analysis on tender submissions and request additional information as needed
  • Evaluate site staffing and construction timelines to establish preliminary costs
  • Facilitate budget settlement meetings with support from the broader Commercial team
  • Prepare payment schedules to aid in project financing
  • Conduct pre-order meetings to finalize tender sums and payment schedules
  • Manage subcontractor orders, including reference checks and contract negotiations
  • Issue variation orders and provide cost assessments for significant changes
  • Ensure accurate cost tracking and reconciliation for all project-related expenses
  • Oversee subcontractor payments and finalize accounts to ensure budget compliance
  • Prepare documentation for external valuations with client representatives
  • Maintain updated RAMS schedules and communicate with relevant parties
  • Coordinate with Customer Service on post-completion issues, offering cost advice as needed
  • Attend various project-related meetings as required
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as directed by your line manager to support team objectives
