Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on various planning applications in accordance with the Local Plan(s), relevant regulations, and legislative frameworks, ensuring compliance with established requirements and the needs of BCP Council.
  • Facilitate public consultations in alignment with Council policies, allowing all stakeholders affected by potential developments to voice their opinions and provide input.
  • Address inquiries from the public, Councillors, prospective developers, and other stakeholders, delivering timely and constructive guidance and information.
  • Offer planning-related advice and support to assist all customers and interested parties in submitting development applications that adhere to the Local Plan(s) and are likely to gain approval.
  • Draft reports and appeal statements to uphold the Council's decisions effectively.
  • Occasionally present to the Planning Committee to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related field, along with relevant experience or the ability to demonstrate transferable skills. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Royal Town Planning Institute is preferred, along with experience in a Local Authority planning department and familiarity with planning applications.
  • Knowledge of planning legislation, including the Town and Country Planning Act and governmental planning frameworks, is advantageous.
  • An understanding of the development management process is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in providing professional advice and guidance, with the ability to present information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Capability to manage a caseload of planning applications and appeals effectively.
