Location: Bristol / Remote / Field Based

Hours: Full Time, Remote, Court Visits, and Police Station Visits

Salary: Competitive | NQ starting £42K+ | + 50% of police station fees

Simpson Judge Ltd, a reputable and established specialist high street firm based in Bristol, is seeking an experienced criminal solicitor to join their busy practice, covering Bristol and the South West. The firm also receives work in Wales and Birmingham, but to a lesser extent. The successful candidate will have the option to work fully remotely when not in court or at police stations.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must be a duty-qualified solicitor or willing to work towards qualification
  • Minimum 1 PQE in crime solicitor experience
  • Experience in both Legal Aid and Private Client Criminal law

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Predominantly handling Legal Aid cases, with some Private Client matters
  • Police station visits
  • Court visits
  • Preparing thoroughly for all hearings, pleas, or trials
  • Carrying out advocacy in Magistrates Court and the Crown Court
  • Instructing agent solicitors and counsel to attend Magistrates Courts
  • Attending and contributing to firm meetings when required
  • Providing advice and assistance at police stations, participating in the firm's out-of-hours rota

Opportunities for Advancement:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to progress to a head of department position, further developing their skills and expertise in criminal law.
