We are currently seeking a Safety Compliance Coordinator to join our Health and Safety Department. This role is pivotal in assisting with the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety initiatives aimed at ensuring safe and healthy work environments for our personnel, while also ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and stakeholder requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate with various departments nationwide to cultivate a safety-oriented culture, promote open communication, and support our commitment to the well-being of our workforce and contractors.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Health and Safety Director to formulate, review, and enhance the management system along with health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation and industry best practices. Identify opportunities for ongoing improvement in health and safety performance.
- Effectively communicate policies to all employees and stakeholders. Partner with our Communications Department to create regular safety notices and bulletins.
- Conduct routine risk assessments of workplace and site activities to identify potential hazards. Work alongside Managers to devise strategies for risk mitigation and assist in implementing controls while maintaining records.
- Stay informed about relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, stakeholder expectations, and industry standards to ensure the organization’s compliance with all applicable laws.
- Monitor and evaluate the organization’s minimum training requirements and compliance. Provide continuous education to enhance awareness of safety issues and foster a culture of safety. Collaborate closely with departments and contractors to ensure training is documented and reviewed regularly.
- Assist the Health and Safety Director and Department Managers in investigating accidents and incidents. Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Encourage the use and understanding of our health and safety software. Provide ongoing education to raise awareness and promote the adoption of online safety management systems. Assist in the further development of templates and systems.
- Maintain and enhance systems for monitoring and reporting key health and safety performance indicators. Prepare regular management reports on safety metrics, incidents, and trends.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the workplace to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. As a national organization, the ability to collaborate online and travel to various sites across the country is essential.
- Participate in health and safety meetings with clients to address concerns, provide assurance, and promote our business and best practices.
- Collaborate with our facilities department and managers nationwide to oversee emergency preparedness plans and drills, and develop systems and educational opportunities.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction or engineering sectors.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
- Ability to execute the full cycle of health and safety management (Plan, Do, Check, Act).
- Highly organized with a keen attention to detail and the capability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
- Excellent IT, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a successful track record of building rapport across all levels of the organization and externally.
- Self-driven with a positive and proactive approach.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development within the role.
- A genuine passion for safeguarding health and safety and promoting positive values and culture.
- A strong interest in the business operations.
- Professional certification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate).
- A recognized professional membership (e.g., IOSH) is desirable.
- CSCS certification is a plus.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- A valid driving license is required due to the travel involved to various offices and sites.
- Standard working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday, including a one-hour lunch break each day.
- Competitive salary range of £40,000 to £45,000 per annum.
