The NHS is seeking to appoint a dedicated Consultant Surgeon with a specialization in inflammatory bowel disease, including expertise in ileo-anal pouch procedures.
We are in search of a motivated and dynamic Consultant who is eager to collaborate with our established team of colorectal surgeons to provide exceptional patient care. This is a full-time position comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with 1.5 allocated for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The job plan and SPA allocation will undergo a formal review after an initial period.
The successful candidate will be involved in both elective and emergency surgical duties across multiple hospital sites. This is an exciting time for our organization, with a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility now operational.

Applicants must possess full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register for General Surgery via CCT or CESR (CP), or have European Community Rights. Evidence of high standards in technical operations, particularly in colorectal surgery, is essential.
Joining our well-established unit, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of our services.
Main ResponsibilitiesWe invite applications from qualified individuals for a Consultant Colorectal/General Surgeon with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease within our General Surgery Care Group. The role involves regular clinical responsibilities across two hospital sites.
While this position is advertised as full-time, we welcome applications from those interested in part-time opportunities.
The role includes comprehensive secretarial support, a dedicated office space, and collaborative assistance from junior doctors and allied health professionals within the colorectal team. Our team consists of 11 colorectal consultants, along with various surgical trainees and support staff, including a specialized surgical IBD nurse.
A dedicated rota will ensure 7-day consultant coverage for inpatient care, minimizing challenges associated with multi-site operations.
This position is a replacement role to accommodate the growing demand for IBD services within our colorectal unit.

Job RequirementsThe successful candidate will primarily focus on patients with inflammatory bowel disease and neuroendocrine tumors. There is an expectation to engage in one additional subspecialty area, such as endometriosis or pelvic floor disorders, all of which are supported by dedicated teams.
Participation in the general surgery on-call rota is expected, with specialized colorectal coverage during daytime hours. The anticipated general surgery rota is 1:20, with colorectal cover at 1:12.
Qualifications- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
- FRCS or equivalent qualification.
- Advanced Life Support certification.
- Instructor in Basic Surgical Skills.
- Joint Association Gastroenterology (JAG) accreditation for colonoscopy.
- Proven experience in general and colorectal surgery, including laparoscopic techniques.
- Presentation of audits at professional meetings.
- Formal teaching experience at a university level.
- Familiarity with neuroendocrine tumors.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Compliance with professional health standards as per GMC guidelines.
- Successful completion of an Occupational Health examination.
