CNC Machining Specialist Overview


A Precision Engineering Firm specializing in advanced manufacturing solutions across various industries including Aerospace, Defence, Motorsport, and Robotics.

Our state-of-the-art engineering facility provides a meticulous and precise working atmosphere, equipped with cutting-edge machine tools and supporting technology.

We are on the lookout for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and highly skilled CNC Machining Specialist to join our established team of CNC Engineers.


This role offers the opportunity to create intricate components that challenge your skills at the forefront of machined part production.

Role & Responsibilities

Your daily responsibilities will involve developing CNC programs for newly designed parts and production components that demand stringent cycle times, utilizing Openmind Software to operate our DMG Mori Machines:

Working from provided tooling information:

  • Formulating production methodologies for component creation
  • Selecting appropriate tooling for each task
  • Producing detailed documentation for Setter-Operators
  • Executing program simulations to verify program accuracy
  • Potentially creating a first-off component as necessary
  • Conducting initial inspection checks
  • Modifying programs to rectify dimensional discrepancies
  • Designing and fabricating tooling and work-holding for additional machining operations
  • Collaborating with inspectors to ensure compliance with drawing tolerances
  • Managing your workload efficiently
  • Adhering to 5C principles
Key Skills Required

Essential skills for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Excellent time management
  • Strong understanding of CNC Mill setup and operation
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings
  • Experience in conducting first-off inspection checks
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend CMM inspection reports
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficient in programming CNC Mills and Lathes
  • Competent in machining methods for various materials and geometries
  • Capable of producing precise programs for complex parts with minimal adjustments
Experience

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Prior experience in setting and operating CNC Lathes and Mills
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in programming prototype work
  • Familiarity with Heidenhain controls and DMG Machines is preferred
  • Background in producing CNC machined components for Motorsport and Aerospace sectors
  • Experience in programming complex components from diverse materials
  • Preferably skilled in HyperCAD and Hypermill Software
Education

Preferred educational qualifications include:

  • BEng (Hons) Graduate
  • Level 3 B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • NVQ Level 3 Apprentice Training
