We are seeking a skilled and driven Principal Flood Risk Modeller to enhance our Flooding and Water Management Team. This position offers flexible working arrangements, requiring a minimum of three days in the office with the possibility of adjusted working hours.
Within the Water Environment Department, you will advocate for the sustainable stewardship of water resources, contributing to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and enhancing community resilience against flooding and climate change. We are committed to fostering your technical growth, enabling you to become a key contributor in developing innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role will involve a diverse range of flood risk evaluations, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and flood management initiatives across the UK, catering to both public and private sector infrastructure and development projects.
As a Principal Flood Risk Modeller , you will guide the modelling team, ensuring the excellence of flood risk modelling outputs. Your expertise in flood risk assessment and management will be instrumental in shaping modelling approaches and decision-making regarding proposed flood mitigation strategies.
Depending on your project management experience, you may lead projects or collaborate closely with project managers to coordinate resources, oversee contracts, manage client relationships, and monitor quality, timelines, and budgets.
You will also mentor team members, providing technical support and overseeing their project deliverables.
Qualifications for Success:
- Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling across various projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK hydrology and open channel hydraulics.
- Proficiency in standard hydraulic modelling software such as Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or SRH2D.
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects, adhering to deliverables, milestones, methodologies, and quality assurance protocols.
- Understanding of economic evaluations (MCM, B£ST, etc.).
- Experience in optioneering and schematic design.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective public and statutory consultations.
- Familiarity with Flood Risk Assessment, Natural Flood Management, and Sustainable Drainage techniques is advantageous.
- Chartered status from a recognized institution (C.Eng or C.WEM) is preferred.
- An MSc/MEng and/or PhD in hydrology, hydraulic modelling, water resources, or a related environmental science field.
