This position is situated within the Infrastructure Change Team at Network Rail.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing change projects, with a thorough understanding of how maintenance teams operate within Network Rail, as well as the planning methodologies and practices involved from initiation to execution.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to influence the future of maintenance planning at Network Rail. Candidates currently working in planning roles, whether in operational settings or central functions, may find this position particularly appealing.

Position Details:

This is a 12-18 month secondment or an 18-month fixed-term contract with the potential for permanent placement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver individual projects or segments of projects safely and sustainably, adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards in line with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) and relevant company policies.
  2. Provide a professional and consistent project management service, utilizing performance metrics and reporting systems as per company standards.
  3. Oversee the development and execution of change projects in compliance with established processes.
  4. Manage risks and changes throughout the project lifecycle for assigned schemes.
  5. Assist or lead in ensuring a safe working environment during project execution.
  6. Adhere to the Investment Competence Framework.
  7. Oversee the creation of project management plans.
  8. Manage project budgets to meet agreed financial targets.
  9. Deliver regular updates on project progress, including risks and issues, to the Programme Manager.
  10. Encourage and monitor the implementation of efficiency improvement strategies.
  11. Share lessons learned to enhance future project performance.

Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Educational background of HNC/HND or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Experience in project safety management.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Projects.
  • Understanding of safety, quality, and environmental protocols.
  • Knowledge of commercial and financial practices.

Desirable:

  • Membership or progress towards membership in the Association for Project Management or similar professional organization.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.
