We are excited to announce multiple openings for Procurement Programme Leaders to join our team on a Full-Time, Permanent basis.

Procurement Programme Leader – Offshore Initiatives

Reporting to the Head of Major Offshore Programmes & Procurement Business Partner – Strategic Infrastructure, the Procurement Programme Leader for Offshore Initiatives will collaborate with the Strategic Infrastructure Business Unit, overseeing the execution of commercial and procurement strategies for significant projects and programmes. This position will manage a team of 2-4 direct reports.

Procurement Programme Leader – Electricity Transmission (Two Positions)

Reporting to the Head of Programme Procurement - ET, the Procurement Programme Leader will partner with the Business Units to implement commercial and procurement strategies for major projects and programmes, specifically supporting the Electricity Transmission Business Unit. Each role will supervise 2 direct reports.

Procurement Programme Leader - Project LionLink

Reporting to the Head of Programme Procurement & Business Partner – National Grid Ventures, the Procurement Programme Leader for Project LionLink will work closely with the Business Units to deliver commercial and procurement strategies for major projects, particularly the LionLink initiative connecting offshore wind between the UK and the Netherlands. This role will initially have no direct reports.

National Grid is at the forefront of the transition to a Net Zero future in the UK and Northeast USA. We understand that decarbonizing our electric and gas systems will involve addressing numerous challenges and forming new partnerships, adopting innovative technologies, and making transformative investments. Over the next five years, we plan to invest significantly across our UK and US operations, creating substantial opportunities for National Grid. This is a pivotal moment for our industry, shaping our success for years to come.

In light of these developments, our supply chains face unprecedented challenges and are central to our strategic objectives, placing National Grid Procurement at the heart of our Net Zero ambitions. We have outlined an ambitious transformation strategy focused on becoming a preferred client for our supply partners while ensuring exceptional outcomes for our Business Units. Our approach centers on three key areas:

Collaboration: We are strengthening our relationships with our supply chain, aligning closely with each National Grid Group Business Unit.

Responsibilities

You will coordinate across the procurement function, engaging with Category Managers, Supply Chain Risk teams, Strategic Supplier Leads, and Market Supplier Development teams to implement commercial strategies for the relevant major project or programme. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with business partners or directly with Business Unit counterparts to understand project requirements and prepare accordingly.
  • Developing procurement and supply chain strategies that align with Business Unit priorities while considering the broader impact on the group and supply chain availability.
  • Recommending resource allocation for project teams, balancing internal and external needs in accordance with policies.
  • Coordinating cost estimation efforts to inform initial project budgets.
  • Co-defining sourcing strategies with relevant category leads and leading agreed sourcing activities as necessary.
  • Providing input into project sanctioning processes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Defining the overall project delivery model, including commercial structures and market approaches.
  • Driving successful project execution, including supplier coordination and claims management.
  • Ensuring procurement activities are conducted within budget, maintaining financial oversight.
  • Proactively assessing and mitigating procurement-related risks, including supply chain risks and project delivery challenges, and communicating regularly with stakeholders.
  • Leading project 'lessons learned' sessions to provide feedback for future initiatives.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with category leads and business partners to foster a collaborative approach to large projects.
  • Developing recommendations for strategic business partners and senior stakeholders to ensure alignment and buy-in.
  • Translating stakeholder recommendations into actionable requirements for procurement teams.
  • Leading engagement with key suppliers, supported by Supplier Engagement teams.
  • Leading a motivated and innovative team, fostering a culture of performance management and employee engagement to achieve strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in end-to-end procurement or supply chain program management.
  • Broad experience in supply chain management within complex environments.
  • Strong communication skills at all organizational levels, including external senior leaders.
  • Experience in building high-performing teams.
  • Solid understanding of broader business objectives.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Experience with collaborative working methods across functions.
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities in large, complex projects.
