Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the provision of specialist lipidology services, including clinical trial work and leading a tertiary centre adult hypertension clinic.
  • Develop and implement service improvements, working closely with the laboratory team and other stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine, including training and education of junior staff and medical students.
  • Participate in research and development activities, including clinical trials and laboratory research.
Requirements
  • Full and specialist registration in Chemical Pathology with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview.
  • FRCPath in Chemical Pathology or equivalent qualification.
  • MRCP or other higher specialist medical degree.
  • CCT in Chemical Pathology with Metabolic Medicine.
Desirable Qualities
  • Extensive experience in the direct care of patients with lipid disorders.
  • Experience and skills required to run a tertiary adult hypertension clinic.
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Experience of managing LDL-apheresis.
  • Evidence of another metabolic medicine special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy.
Key Skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry, Lipidology, and Hypertension.
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in patient management in these areas of practice.
  • Broad range of IT skills.
Working Arrangements
  • Full-time position, 10 sessions per week.
  • Permanent contract.
  • Salary: £99,532 - £131,964 pro rata.
