Key Responsibilities:

The governing body plays a crucial role in the strategic oversight of the institution, making pivotal decisions on various matters.

  • Ensuring accountability within the governance framework.
  • Providing constructive support and challenge to the senior leadership team.
  • Monitoring and assessing the institution's progress.
  • Managing budget allocations and financial oversight.
  • Formulating plans for institutional improvement and supervising their execution.
  • Establishing the institution's objectives and core values.
  • Recruiting senior staff members, including the Head Teacher.

A governing body comprises representatives from the institution, parents, and the local community.

Candidate Profile:

  • The vacancy is for an Academy Primary School, and we are looking for a new Chairperson who can work strategically, lead the board effectively, and ensure the board operates efficiently.
  • Applicants must be over 18 years old; prior parental status or having children of school age is not a requirement. Often, an external perspective is invaluable to a school. Professional backgrounds in safeguarding, change management, and leadership are advantageous. Additionally, strong communication and problem-solving skills are beneficial.

Governors make decisions that shape the future of educational institutions. The Chairperson collaborates with Head Teachers and the Senior Management Team to deliver optimal educational experiences, helping students achieve their goals and aspirations.

Our recent impact assessment revealed that our volunteers contribute approximately £9.9 million in value to schools annually, with 90% of volunteers recommending the role to others.

As a Chairperson, you will be encouraged to engage with the institution to understand its culture and ethos, maximizing the benefits of your role. You will also have opportunities to interact with students, parents, and educators, witnessing the direct impact of your contributions.
