Role Overview: The Employment Support Tutor will play a crucial role in assisting young individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) as they navigate their Supported Internships. The primary objective is to facilitate their progression in work placements, ensuring a smooth transition into paid employment while achieving the Pearson's employability work skills accreditation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and structure the on-site educational program.
- Identify and recruit suitable candidates with disabilities for the internship program, conducting necessary educational assessments.
- Design and implement engaging daily classroom activities and lesson plans aligned with the Pearson's employability award (Entry Level 3 – Level 2).
- Provide daily support in literacy and numeracy to enhance interns' skills.
- Assist interns in developing their Pearson's portfolios to secure accreditation and obtain letters of recommendation from their internship sites.
- Ensure the emotional and social well-being of the interns throughout their placements.
- Collaborate with local authorities and businesses, participating in reviews and meetings to address student progression and employment needs.
- Create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and transition plans tailored to each student's preferences and abilities.
- Attend host business orientations to facilitate interns' understanding and learning.
- Work alongside job coaches and department managers to establish internship sites, formulate job descriptions, and plan necessary job modifications.
- Engage with parents, local authorities, and other stakeholders to support interns' progression.
- Provide personalized support for interns at their work placements, including job coaching and identifying suitable job opportunities.
- Foster professional relationships with parents to enhance support for interns.
- Educate managers and co-workers on disability awareness to promote an inclusive work environment.
- Conduct regular meetings with business liaisons, managers, and peer mentors to discuss student strengths, challenges, and progress.
- Collaborate with job coaches to organize events such as inductions, information sessions, and graduations.
- Assist in marketing efforts for the business and community through newsletters, website content, tours, and presentations.
- Work with employers, families, and other relevant parties to resolve issues related to training and employment.
- Train interns in essential workplace skills, including personal hygiene, communication, interviewing techniques, and professional behavior.
- Participate in decision-making processes to identify and implement effective training strategies and services.
- Adhere to and promote the standards of the host business to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Complete necessary job coaching documentation and apply for Access to Work funding on behalf of the interns.
- Provide information regarding benefits and work-related expenses.
- Recognize and act upon legal responsibilities concerning the safety and welfare of interns.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of each student's learning difficulties and social/emotional needs, taking appropriate steps to address them.
- Utilize diverse support methods and resources tailored to the interns' needs.
- Engage in relevant training programs, such as first aid, as necessary.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Careers Education and Guidance, Youth and Community Work, Social Care, or a related field (or willingness to pursue).
- Experience working with young adults with SEND is essential.
- Level 3 Education and Training Award (PTTLS) is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficient in various IT tools, with the ability to engage with a diverse audience including senior managers, professionals, young people, and parents.
- Proven experience in fostering a positive team culture.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key organizations.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage one's workload effectively.
- Demonstrated success in achieving contract KPIs and positive outcomes for young people.
- Capability to create and sustain strong partnerships with other organizations.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines related to Children and Young People's Services and SEND.
