Patient Care Support Specialist

Position Overview
Healds Road Surgery is seeking a dedicated and dependable Patient Care Support Specialist to join our welcoming team. This role involves providing exceptional, patient-focused care to individuals in a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, along with the capacity to perform effectively in a fast-paced setting. Previous experience in a healthcare support role is essential.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Patient Care Support Specialist include, but are not limited to:
1. Conducting initial health assessments for new patients.
2. Assisting the nursing staff with health promotion initiatives.
3. Performing essential health measurements such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, ensuring accurate documentation of findings.
4. Facilitating routine and extended blood pressure monitoring, providing guidance to patients as necessary.
5. Carrying out wound care, dressing changes, and other clinical tasks as required.
6. Supporting the management of chronic disease clinics alongside nursing staff.
7. Conducting Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments as directed.
8. Serving as a chaperone when needed.
9. Performing venipuncture procedures.
10. Administering vaccinations including flu, pneumococcal, shingles, and COVID-19.
11. Providing B12 injections as required.
12. Conducting electrocardiograms (ECGs) upon request.
13. Ensuring that specimens are properly recorded and prepared for transport.
14. Assisting during minor surgical procedures as necessary.
15. Maintaining clinical rooms, ensuring they are well-stocked and ready for each session.
16. Regularly checking and documenting refrigerator temperatures.
17. Ensuring clinical waste is disposed of in accordance with infection prevention and control policies.
18. Promoting health awareness opportunistically when appropriate.
Candidate Profile
Required Experience
- Proven experience in a healthcare support role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a general practice setting.
Essential Qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics (grades A to C).
- Completion of the Care Certificate.
Desirable Certifications
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Vaccination administration certification.
- ECG certification.
