Job Overview

As a key member of the design team at Bluegate Consulting Ltd, you will be responsible for the design of new electronic products, as well as maintaining and upgrading existing ones. You will manage design projects from a technical perspective, cost, and product brief from conception to volume manufacture.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and develop practical, robust, and cost-effective electronic products with appropriate documentation.
  • Produce schematic, PCB layout, mechanical, and software designs for products.
  • Specify microcontrollers for embedded systems and program in C.
  • Ensure full test and validation of designs to specification before release for manufacture.
  • Test and report for compliance to relevant standards.
  • Create production test solutions.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and support New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to utilize the most cost-effective technology.
  • Support junior engineers in developing their skills.
  • Provide engineering support to other parts of the business as required.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in electronics.
  • Experience in design for manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital circuits and PCB layout.
  • Programming skills in C for embedded design (STM32 preferred).
  • Programming skills in Python for testing solutions.
  • Practical experience in hand-building and debugging prototype circuits.

Desirable Skills

  • Programming skills in VB/VBA.
  • Knowledge of LEDs for lighting applications.
  • Understanding of lighting controls and sensors.
  • Experience with Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS).
  • Knowledge of battery charging.
  • Understanding of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
