We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Officer to join our workshop manufacturing team at Manchester Metropolitan University. As a Technical Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the education and research services of the university, working in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios, and digital facilities.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our vibrant technical community, developing our education and research services to meet the needs of a university of the future. You will work closely with our diverse team of technicians to ensure the university functions efficiently and delivers the highest levels of student experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a wide range of skills and experience covering a broad range of Mechanical Engineering disciplines.
- Conduct Engineering Materials testing, subtractive technologies, and CAD/CAM operations.
- Ensure Health & Safety of workshop/laboratory spaces are maintained at all times, conducting inductions for staff, students, and visitors.
- Manage Risk Assessments, COSHH forms, and prep notes in area of responsibility.
- Work as part of a wider team to triage student questions and issues across multiple disciplines.
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff and students, with a keen eye for detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements
- Flexibility to work across faculties and multidisciplinary machinist experience.
- Proactive and positive attitude, with a commitment to quality service.
- Ability to work on own initiative and participate in internal and external networks and user groups.
