Strategic Director of Science and Technology

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to join our Executive team as an Associate Director of Science and Technology. This is a key strategic role that will provide an opportunity for a world-class science leader to shape and oversee the strategic direction of our largest division.
Key Responsibilities- Lead organisational transformation and workforce planning to ensure the division is equipped to respond to external funding opportunities.
- Lead and support our community of early career researchers, creating a balanced portfolio of staff skills and associated development.
- Develop areas of marine science and technology, as well as the science/policy interface, to drive growth and impact.
- Build opportunities for new funding in areas of strategic importance, contributing to our research priorities and ensuring the organisation's financial resilience.
- Lead the evolution and implementation of our research integrity policy and initiatives.
- Identify key beneficiaries and stakeholders nationally and internationally, and develop and maintain key partnerships.
- Experience of directing large and complex programmes or facilities in ocean science research.
- Ability to lead and develop large teams, with a track record of building successful partnerships internally and externally.
- Passion for the ocean and its potential to effect change.
- Experience of driving change and leading on transformation, with a vision for the strategic landscape.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a track record of building successful partnerships and working in complex stakeholder environments.
- Substantial experience in and knowledge of funding opportunities, such as those from UKRI and/or the European Commission.

This position can be based in Southampton or Liverpool, with regular travel to our Southampton site required if based in Liverpool.
