Job Title: Research Assistant/Associate ARC SCF

About the Role

Newcastle University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Assistant/Associate to join our Supporting Children and Families (SCF) theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of ongoing projects in children and families and develop new projects aligning to their own research interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of ongoing projects in children and families and develop new projects aligning to your own research interests
  • Develop projects relating to maternity, infants, children, and families
  • Carry out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard
  • Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects
  • Prepare papers for publication and disseminate findings at conferences and meetings as required
  • Support supervision of undergraduate and masters student dissertations
  • Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills
  • Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the management of the SCF theme and the NIHR ARC as required by the Director

Person Specification

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong background in research, particularly in the areas of child and family health. The successful candidate will have:

  • Clear knowledge and experience of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research including data collection and analysis
  • Evidence of ability to co-author peer reviewed publications
  • Evidence of successfully working on an applied health research project relating to the children and families
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and with others in a team
  • The ability to communicate to a range of audiences using a range of presentation approaches
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle difficult or sensitive situations
  • Be able to work flexibly with regard to hours of work including occasional evenings, and travel across the region
  • Experience of public involvement and engagement in research or evidenced interest in developing this

Desirable

We would also welcome applications from individuals with:

  • Knowledge of health and social care policy relating to the UK
  • An understanding of the research inclusion agenda

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a Master's degree in a relevant subject, and/or working towards a PhD in a relevant subject.
