Key Responsibilities of the Senior Payroll Operations Manager:

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly and monthly payrolls in compliance with business and legal standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of payroll specialists.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and optimize the in-house payroll system, including system testing and implementation.
  • Oversee the Oracle payroll system, ensuring controlled and effective updates.
  • Develop and maintain a robust payroll control environment that meets financial and audit standards.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on payroll, providing guidance to team members and colleagues.
  • Manage employee payments through various methods as required by the business.
  • Coordinate with HMRC to fulfill all statutory reporting obligations.
  • Conduct payroll audits to ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Finance and Audit to guarantee accurate payroll information and adherence to financial controls.
  • Perform payroll data analysis and generate reports.
  • Enhance payroll procedures in line with industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with the HR Services Leadership Team to improve overall HR service efficiency and workplace satisfaction.

Qualifications for the Senior Payroll Operations Manager:

  • Experience as a Payroll Manager within an HR function, managing similar payroll sizes, including weekly and monthly payroll processing.
  • Extensive experience in a dynamic payroll environment with advisory expertise.
  • CIPP Level 5 qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of tax and payroll legislation and change management.
  • Experience with pensions, including auto-enrolment and contractual enrolment.
  • Strong understanding of payroll and pension statutory requirements.
  • Proficient in benefit processing and year-end P11D reporting.
  • Experience in managing data interfaces and automating data inputs.
  • Development and management of payroll processes and controls, with experience in internal and external audits.
  • Ability to analyze raw payroll data and refine payroll policies accordingly.
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly in MS Excel for data interpretation.
  • Experience in data analysis and report generation.
  • Exceptional team leadership and management skills, including mentoring capabilities.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Solid understanding of pensions administration in payroll.
