The JHF Youth Charity is a community-oriented non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering young individuals through the strength of positive relationships. Role OverviewWe are seeking part-time Tutors in and around North Somerset who are capable of teaching GCSE English, Maths, and/or Science. If you possess expertise in other subjects or levels, we encourage you to reach out for potential opportunities.
Core Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibility will be to provide customized tutoring to young people aged 7-18 years.
Working Hours:
Each placement will consist of 2-10 hours per week, with timings being negotiable. Once established, sessions will occur at a consistent time each week during term time only.

Hourly rate of £28.36.
Candidate Profile:
We expect you to design and implement a tailored tutoring program for the young individuals assigned to you. An adaptable and flexible approach is essential, as you will need to cater to each young person's specific educational needs as outlined in their EHCP.
Providing one-on-one tutoring, you should work creatively and intuitively, demonstrating empathy towards the young person's requirements while offering professional and reliable support.
The young individuals we typically assist often have an EHCP, may experience social and emotional health challenges, and are likely not attending school. Utilizing their EHCP outcomes, you will create a learning pathway that supports their transition back to an educational environment and/or helps them achieve relevant qualifications.
The ideal candidate will maintain high professional standards while supporting young people in engaging with education and building resilience.
QualificationsEssential Criteria:
- Teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or equivalent.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with young people and their families.
- Empathetic approach to learning, with a focus on boosting students' confidence and self-esteem, aiming for them to reach their full potential.
- Commitment, reliability, honesty, and patience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to differentiate planning and teaching extensively.
- A valid enhanced DBS check (or an existing DBS on the update service).
- Clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation.
- Experience working with young people with an EHCP.
- Valid UK driver's license and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Right to live and work in the UK.
Specific Duties:
- Planning differentiated tutoring sessions based on the young person's needs.
- Preparing students for examinations or assessments.
- Supporting young individuals in achieving their targets as outlined in their EHCP.
- Submitting tutoring session summary reports promptly (within 24 hours).
- Maintaining current subject knowledge.
- Regularly marking and assessing work and homework, providing constructive feedback.
- Keeping accurate records of student attendance and progress.
- Exhibiting professionalism at all times, representing the charity's objectives.
- Possessing practical knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
