We are seeking an experienced Tax Compliance Specialist to join our established in-house tax team at United Utilities. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the indirect tax compliance and reporting for the group, as well as supporting on various advisory projects.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and submit VAT returns in a timely manner.
- Manage other indirect tax filings, including environmental taxes.
- Provide day-to-day assistance to internal and external stakeholders on VAT and other indirect tax queries.
- Contribute to the implementation and integration of new technology solutions and processes.
- Stay up-to-date with legislation changes and maintain good technical knowledge.
- Review and optimize our systems and processes to maximize tax reporting capabilities and ensure compliance.
- Support the year-end financial audit for all Indirect Tax queries and deliverables.
- Assist with Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) reporting.
- Experience in VAT accounting, reconciliations, and preparing and submitting VAT returns within the UK.
- Strong UK VAT technical knowledge is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate tax concepts to non-finance colleagues.
- Highly computer literate with excellent Excel skills, and experience with new software implementation is an advantage.
- Knowledge of customs duties and environmental tax is desirable.
- Strong analytical and interpretative skills, with the ability to identify issues and problem-solve.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality output to tight deadlines, demonstrating effective organizational skills and time management.
