Paper Conservation Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paper Conservation Manager to lead our paper conservation studio at Royal Museums Greenwich. As a senior specialist conservator, you will be responsible for the conservation and preservation of our extensive and diverse paper-based collections, including art on paper, library and archive material, globes, ship plans, modern and historic photographs, and film-based media.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the paper conservation studio and supervise the work of the paper conservation team, including overseeing professional development and welfare.
- Enable the delivery of the Museums' exhibitions and loans programme by providing condition assessments, undertaking complex conservation treatments, and contributing to the research and understanding of the collections.
- Advise on timescales for conservation and mounting of objects for display, assist with gallery installs and rotations, and conduct site visits and courier trips as required, working in collaboration with other departments.
- Supervise, manage, and motivate staff or volunteers, with strong leadership skills and experience of COSHH and Health and Safety requirements for conservation and studio management.
- Develop and maintain strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues effectively, and computer literacy with a good knowledge of Microsoft applications and museum collections management systems.
Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites, including the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen's House. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art, and history, and our strategy 'Charting Our Course' puts people at the core of its success.
What We Offer- A full-time, permanent role in Band 4 with core hours of work 36 per week, working 5 days between the hours of 8am-4pm, although flexible hours can be agreed with line management.
- A salary of £42,000.
