Job Description

Wood PLC is currently recruiting for contract Senior and Principal Technical Safety Engineers to provide services to our Technical HSE Team based in Reading.

You will be working alongside the Design HSE Group, within the Engineering Department, and will liaise with the Group Manager Design HSE. The department sits within the New Energies business of Wood.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Health and Safety Plans and Philosophies
  • Oversee process safety aspects of design and associated documentation
  • Interpret and apply process safety-related legislation and standards
  • Conduct safety studies and qualitative and quantitative risk assessments
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZIDs and LOPA reviews, potentially as Chair
  • Conduct project audits

Suitable contractors may also perform the role of Lead Engineer in a project environment. This is a technical role directing a team of Technical Safety Engineers in a project environment. In this role you will be undertaking the following activities:

  • Plan activities and deliverables of your team against project schedule
  • Meet project deadlines, milestones and budgets for deliverables
  • Monitor and direct the work activities of your team
  • Liaise with project management and client
  • Communicate with and coordinate work with other engineering discipline teams
Qualifications
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution (e.g. Chartered Engineer)
  • Technical competence in core Design Safety subject areas, notably; Hazard identification, Consequence Modelling, Risk Assessment, Working knowledge of applicable international standards
  • Experience in the application of Design Safety within a design environment likely to include the following: Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refining, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Carbon Capture/ Hydrogen Production
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking skills, ability to manage own work and the work of others, plus a strong customer focus and team-working skills
  • Ability to work to agreed delivery dates while collaborating with others in multifunctional teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
