Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a highly skilled Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their legal team on a permanent basis.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in adult social care law from either a private practice or a public sector setting and be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deputise for the Principal Lawyer and provide training and support to the Lawyers in the team.
  • Assist with the allocation of work, personal development plans, and 1:1s.
  • Make applications to the Court of Protection and High Court, including COP applications around issuing concerning deputyships, welfare, and best interests.
  • Provide detailed, accurate advice on the Council's responsibilities under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Health and Social Care Act 2008, Mental Health Act 1983, and associated Regulations and Statutory Guidance.
  • Provide legal advice and support across a broad range of areas, including ordinary residence, Data Protection, and Freedom of Information, safeguarding, provider failure, section 117 aftercare, and 16-17-year-old Deprivation of liberty cases.
  • Advise Service Managers and Directors on Adult Social Care policy and procedure.
