Job Overview

The Pharmaceutical Processing Associate is tasked with ensuring the precise and prompt handling of medication requests for eligible individuals, collaborating efficiently with all pertinent personnel. Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, the management of recurring medication requests in both digital and physical formats, including online submissions. Furthermore, the individual in this role will be expected to assist the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that the strategic goals of the practice are achieved.

This is a bank role offering flexible working hours as per the duty schedule.

Provide support to clinical pharmacists as necessary.

Handle sensitive patient data with the highest level of confidentiality, safeguarding patients' privacy.

Our practice serves a diverse patient base of 25,000 individuals.

We are a large, dedicated General Practice with a multidisciplinary team that includes Pharmacists, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Physician Associates, GPs, and a supportive administrative team. We are active participants in our Primary Care Network and uphold its principles.

Job Duties

- Process recurring medication requests received via various channels, adhering to practice protocols.

- Generate prescriptions for physician approval within an acceptable timeframe.

- Ensure all medication requests are processed and ready for collection within a 48-hour period.

- Create requests for medications on behalf of patients for non-recurring items.

- Encourage patients to reconcile their medications to facilitate monthly collections.

- Discuss patient needs, promoting responsible ordering practices.

- Address compliance issues by coordinating with the relevant clinician.

- Organize medication reviews by maintaining an accurate recall system.

- Collaborate with external services, such as district nurses, to ensure medications are arranged for homebound patients.

- Input data into patient healthcare records as required.

- Respond to all medication-related inquiries promptly.

- Accurately record and report adverse effects, notifying the practice manager immediately.

- Utilize EMIS for data management.

- Conduct system searches as requested.

- Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all times.

In addition to primary responsibilities, the Pharmaceutical Processing Associate may be asked to:

- Assist clinical pharmacists as needed.

- Participate in audits as directed by the audit lead.

- Support the Deputy Practice Manager in reviewing and updating the practice's medication policy.

- Complete opening and closing procedures according to the duty schedule.

Information related to patients, caregivers, colleagues, other healthcare professionals, or the practice's operations may only be disclosed to authorized individuals in accordance with the practice's confidentiality policies and procedures.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in customer service roles.
  • Background in a healthcare environment.
  • Previous experience as a prescription clerk.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of GCSE level education or equivalent.
  • GCSE Mathematics & English (C grade or above)

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
