Position Overview:
Role Purpose

Colas is tasked with the eight-year Maintenance & Response contract for a local road network. This contract encompasses various maintenance services including cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response, and minor works.
We are currently seeking dedicated Highway Maintenance Technicians with HGV Class 2 driving licenses to join our team. As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you will collaborate with your colleagues to perform essential highway maintenance tasks, winter maintenance, and emergency response when necessary.

Your responsibilities will include a variety of activities such as Patching, Traffic Management, Gully Emptying, Soft Estate maintenance, Street Furniture Repair, and Winter Maintenance.

Main Responsibilities:


As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you will engage in diverse maintenance activities including Gully Emptying, Winter Maintenance, Sweeping & Cleaning, Soft Estate Clearance, and Traffic Management, among others, to ensure the effective upkeep of highway infrastructure.

You will work closely with your team to promote a strong Health & Safety culture within the workplace, ensuring compliance with defined safe systems of work and risk assessments. Active participation in incident management and winter service is expected.

Utilizing Colas plant and fleet effectively, you will ensure all vehicles are inspected for safety before operation in accordance with company policy.

Additionally, you will manage administrative tasks such as timesheet collection and documentation of plant, labor, and material usage.

Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by your line manager or supervisor, ensuring the satisfactory completion of work in line with Colas Health & Safety practices.

You will maintain a professional demeanor that positively reflects the company’s image.

Flexibility to work both day and night shifts, participate in out-of-hours rotas for winter maintenance and emergency response, including mandatory standby, is required.

Ideal Candidate:


The ideal candidates will possess an HGV Class 2 License, which is essential for this role, as winter maintenance will be a significant aspect of your responsibilities, along with a full UK driving license.

Experience in Highway Maintenance and/or relevant qualifications (such as NRSWA, TM, Gully Emptying, Soft Estate) are desirable but not mandatory.
Colas Ltd seeks Highway Maintenance Technicians who demonstrate a proactive attitude and a willingness to take initiative. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure and in various weather conditions are essential.
