About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk and Controls Manager to join our Asset Management team at Starling Bank. As a key member of our risk management function, you will be responsible for overseeing the risk and controls framework for our Asset Management function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk & Control Advisory
    • Provide expert advice and guidance to Risk and Control owners on key decisions, ensuring they are aware and accountable for their risk profile.
    • Contribute to the development of a risk-aware culture within our Customer Operations team.
    • Identify emerging risks in collaboration with risk owners and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Risk & Control Lifecycle, Oversight and Reporting
    • Ensure clear articulation of the risk and control environment for our Asset Management function.
    • Present risk management information to key stakeholders on a monthly basis, providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
    • Assist stakeholders in identifying risk and creating controls, including developing continuous monitoring approaches.
    • Undertake periodic independent controls effectiveness testing, providing effective challenge where necessary.
    • Identify control deficiencies and areas for enhancement, and develop strategies to address them.
    • Manage operational events, including root cause analysis, containment, lessons learned, and read across.
    Requirements
    • Experience in operating risk management frameworks effectively.
    • Experience in first-line control testing.
    • Understanding of Conduct Risk and the Consumer Duty would be an advantage.
    • Some experience of working in a regulated lending environment would be beneficial.
    • A natural ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
    • An inquisitive and analytical mind, with a strong ability to understand risks, controls, processes, and identify control gaps.
    • A proactive approach to managing workloads and a 'can-do' attitude, with the ability to use initiative and take ownership.
    • Ability to challenge the status quo and contribute to shaping financial crime operations to be best-in-class across financial services.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, with knowledge of database management and reporting.
    • Exposure to working within First or Second-line risk or as a risk champion within a business line.
