Position Overview

The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will be an integral member of a collaborative healthcare team at Mildmay Mission Hospital, dedicated to maintaining exceptional standards of care.

This role involves providing advanced specialist Speech Therapy services to clients with diverse needs.

The ideal candidate will also oversee and mentor Speech and Language Therapy students, volunteers, and junior staff as required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Duties:

Conduct comprehensive assessments, offer expert advice, and deliver treatment for individuals experiencing communication and swallowing challenges.

Utilize specialized knowledge to make informed clinical decisions.

Implement tailored interventions and assess their effectiveness.

Exhibit clinical proficiency through evidence-based methodologies.

Modify therapeutic approaches to cater to individual patient requirements, including cultural considerations.

Maintain accountability for professional conduct and recognize the limits of practice.

2. Multi-Disciplinary Team Engagement:

Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and assist in setting patient-centered goals.

Manage a diverse caseload and contribute to treatment planning.

Fulfill key worker responsibilities.

Accurately document therapy sessions and maintain statistical records.

3. Service Improvement Initiatives:

Employ rehabilitation techniques to educate the community on therapeutic practices.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop outcome measures for high-quality service delivery.

Continuously monitor and enhance quality standards within Speech Therapy.

Identify opportunities for service innovation and development.

4. Educational and Research Contributions:

Facilitate training and educational programs for staff and students.

Design in-service training initiatives and supervise trainees.

Lead audits and research projects within the specialty.

Stay informed about the latest evidence-based practices.

5. Personal Development:

Commit to ongoing professional development through training and reflective practice.

Maintain a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.

Encourage colleagues to adhere to evidence-based practices.

Ensure proficiency in therapeutic manual handling techniques.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Recognized degree in Speech Therapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Experience at a master's level.
  • Registered member of RCSLT.
  • Membership in relevant Clinical Interest Groups.

Experience:

Essential:

  • A minimum of 6 years of post-registration experience.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases and manual handling.
  • Engagement in CPD with specialized training.
  • Experience in assessments, risk management, and educational roles.
  • Collaboration within integrated health and social care teams.
