Job Title: Principal Engineer - Structures Design Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to lead our Civil Structures team in Leeds. This role involves working on bridges and ancillary civil structures projects, providing technical guidance and support to colleagues, and mentoring and developing others.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and delivery of civil structures projects, including bridges and ancillary structures.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues, including mentoring and developing others.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure project delivery meets quality, time, and cost requirements.
  • Assess and document design changes, and communicate with project managers.
  • Review projects on completion and recommend improvements to technical policy, processes, and design solutions.
Requirements:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
  • 10+ years relevant post-qualification structures design experience and a strong successful record of project delivery in structures design.
  • Chartered Membership of the ICE or IStructE.
  • Significant experience with design to Eurocodes and DMRB.
  • Experience mentoring graduate engineers under ICE or IStructE training schemes.
  • Extensive experience of delivering projects within tight timescales.
  • Proficient with structural design and analysis software such as Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, LUSAS, or similar.
  • Significant previous experience of providing project governance on projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit different audiences.
  • Extensive civil structures design experience, including working on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience of working on projects from initial tender/bid submissions, project management, leading the production of engineering drawings, obtaining statutory or third-party approvals, project administration, etc.
  • The ability to gain insight beyond a client's immediate need to identify opportunities that benefit the client through meaningful and productive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
  • A full UK driving licence.
