Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Haematology/Oncology team at HCA Healthcare UK. As a specialist in blood disorders and cancer, you will be at the forefront of clinical innovation and have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in haematology-oncology specialist nursing.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess patient care requirements and agree with the patient the level of nursing care required, involving the main carer where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate ability to record, monitor and interpret patients vital signs.
  • Report to nurse in charge appropriately.
  • Initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Attend at Immediate Life Support training.
  • Devise appropriate plans of care.
  • Involve patient/family/next of kin in decision making.
  • Take account of Consultant preference.
  • Act as autonomous professional.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care and initiate change or decide upon new and complex care with appropriate supervision and act as the patient advocate.
  • Review results regularly.
  • Inform senior staff or doctors of abnormal results.
  • Recognise the need for change in the patients plan of care.
  • Implement changes in care smoothly in consultation with patients/family/next of kin and care team.
  • Prepare for discharge planning, at time of admission (or whenever appropriate). Instruct junior staff likewise.
Working with HCA/Students
  • Work with HCA/students delegating and supervising care as appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate the care of a group of patients supervising the work of junior staff.
  • Allocate patients to staff according to patients needs and skill mix.
  • Be fair and equitable in allocation.
Evaluation of Nursing Outcomes
  • Evaluate nursing outcomes based on assessment and analysis of nursing interventions.
  • Accurately monitor and document nursing outcomes.
  • Compare nursing outcomes based on assessment (pressure care management, wound management etc.).
  • Analyse interventions (pain management, symptom care).
Emergency Situations
  • Recognise and take appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • Recognise deterioration in patients condition at an early stage (including neutropenic patients).
  • Be aware of potential rapid deterioration in some patients.
  • Refer to the senior nurse appropriately.
  • Refer to the medical team appropriately.
  • Act calmly and co-ordinate emergency situations effectively.
Nursing Procedures
  • Ensure that appropriate nursing procedures are implemented relating to all intravenous therapy and other care undertaken.
  • Use all giving sets appropriately.
  • Use all biomedical devises (volumetric pumps, syringe drivers, glucometers, anaesthetic equipment) appropriately.
  • Ensure the patients safety is maintained during administration (checking and patient observation).
  • Ensure that all specimens are correctly labelled, recorded and managed.
  • Attend IV/chemotherapy drug administration training, complete workbook competence.
  • Demonstrate ability to trouble shoot.
  • Supervise and support less experienced nurses.
Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse NMC Pin.
  • Experience in an acute nursing environment within NHS or Private Hospital.
